I find black and white paintings to be captivating. Without other colors, they are strong, yet simplistic, and that's what draws me to them as a viewer and also as an artist. One of my favorite black and white masters is Franz Kline. I believe that his process involved a great deal of planning in order to achieve an effective painting.... his work was much more than the a haphazard application of a few strokes on the canvas.
